Based out of Texas, Dynata is one of the world’s largest providers of market research data, claiming a reach of more than 70 million consumers and business professionals. Dynata’s main product is to offer access to online respondents. By connecting buyers of market research with online users who have agreed to answer surveys, they facilitate research projects in all the main markets worldwide.
Monetizing YOUR data
Dynata’s core business is to gather data and survey answers from its vast network of panel communities. While Dynata plays an essential role in the supply chain of the market research industry, they have historically offered very few analytical solutions to end clients. Their main products are:
- Access to respondents (and their data)
- Questionnaire scripting
- Basic data processing
Dynata can be seen as a wholesale facilitator of data access rather than offering sophisticated end-client market research solutions such as agencies like Ipsos, Kantar and Nielsen. They pay an incentive to you as a respondent and mark up the price when they re-sell your data to one of their clients.
A product of extensive M&A activities
Dynata is a product of an astonishing number of mergers and acquisitions. Former companies, now fully incorporated under the Dynata brand, include:
- Branded – acquired in 2022
- Critical Mix – acquired 2019
- Research Now & Survey Sampling International (SSI) merger in 2018
- MRops – acquired by SSI in 2015
- Opininonology (formerly known as Western Watts) – acquired by SSI in 2011
- Peanut Labs – acquired by eRewards in 2010
- Research Now – acquired by eRewards in 2009
- Bloomerce – acquired by SSI in 2005
Most of these companies were initially focused on different variations of respondent supply. For example, eRewards specialized in accessing loyalty program members, while Peanut Labs utilized social media to access respondents. SSI was well-established in the US market, while Bloomerce had strong consumer panels in Europe etc.
