Andrew: Andrew is one of our reviewers who’s been with HuginX the longest. With a background in membership support at one of the largest survey companies, Andrew has a lot of inside knowledge of the Market Research industry and has helped us refine our reviewing criteria. When Andrew is not working with reviews, he likes to go hiking with his dog Charlie.

What company is behind this site?

Ysense is run by Prodege, LLC, based in El Segundo, California which is one of the largest providers of market research participants globally. The company was founded in 2005 and is headquartered in California. Prodege operates several online rewards platforms and survey sites, including Swagbucks, MyPoints, and InboxDollars. It also provides market research solutions to businesses and organizations through its proprietary technology and panel of over 120 million registered members.

Is ySense legit?

When assessing the legitimacy of ySense, it is crucial to acknowledge that it is not a scam. Firstly, the site is not involved in any fraudulent activity that seeks to deceive or defraud its users. It does not engage in practices such as asking for financial information, like credit card numbers, which are often red flags for potential scams.

Additionally, ySense does provide real opportunities to earn money through various activities, and it does deliver on its promise of cash payments. Users have reported receiving their earnings after reaching the payout threshold, which further supports the legitimacy of the platform.

However, while ySense can be considered legitimate in the sense that it does not scam people and delivers on its basic promises, it’s essential to be aware of the negative aspects highlighted in our review. The high payout threshold and low compensation for some tasks can make it challenging to earn a substantial amount of money quickly. This might lead to frustration or disappointment, especially for those seeking a more lucrative online earning opportunity.

The presence of numerous third-party surveys and repetitive profiling questions can also be time-consuming and may not be worth the effort for some users. Additionally, the frequent account blocking reported by some users raises concerns about the platform’s transparency and fairness in managing user accounts.

What’s the concept?

Prodege’s business model revolves around selling market research data to its clients. They collect valuable data from users like us who participate in surveys and other activities on ySense. How do they monetize this data? Well, Prodege has integrated with third-party market research platforms like CPX Research and Cint. These platforms act as intermediaries, connecting Prodege with thousands of market research buyers worldwide.

Here’s how it works: When you sign up for ySense and fill out your profile, your information is used to match you with relevant surveys. For example, let’s say a market research client wants to conduct a survey on consumer preferences for smartphones. They might specify criteria like age, gender, location, and tech usage habits. The survey platform would then programmatically match participants’ profiles (like yours) with surveys they are likely to qualify for, ensuring a better fit for the research.

Here’s where the importance of survey taker profiles matching the surveys becomes apparent. Imagine you’re a tech-savvy individual who loves smartphones, and you get matched with a survey about gardening tools. That would be quite irrelevant and frustrating, right? In such cases, you’d be disqualified from the survey, wasting your time and potentially not earning any Points.

Unfortunately, the targeting process is not foolproof, and that’s why so many survey attempts often end in respondents being screened out. Even if your profile seems like a good fit, the survey might have additional criteria that disqualify you. For instance, the survey might require participants who have recently purchased a specific smartphone model, and if you haven’t, you’ll be screened out.

While the targeting process aims to improve survey relevance, it’s not 100% perfect, leading to some frustration for users who end up disqualified from surveys. This is an inherent challenge in the market research industry and something that users should be aware of when participating in these types of platforms.

How to register

Signing up for ySense is a simple and straightforward process. First, you need to visit their official website and enter your email and chosen password. Once you’ve completed this step, you’ll be asked to verify your email to complete your registration. After that, it’s important to complete your Profile page with accurate information so that you can be matched with relevant surveys.

Additionally, you can choose to read the FAQs and browse the forum to familiarize yourself with the platform. Once you’re set up, you can start earning money by completing surveys and tasks, with cash rewards accumulating in your ySense account. Finally, you can cash out your earnings when you reach the minimum payout threshold.

ySense verification

To ensure that you receive the rewards and benefits associated with ySense, Prodege may need to verify your identity. This means that they may ask you to provide a copy of your passport, driver’s license, or state ID card, verify your mobile phone number, or provide other proof of identity or eligibility.

In other words: Make sure to sign up with your real credentials to avoid losing out on your hard-earned cash.

What type of surveys can I expect?

The vast majority of surveys on ySense will cover consumer subjects.

Here are some examples:

  • Price sensitivity among consumers of soft drinks
  • Brand awareness and loyalty among users of laundry detergents
  • Factors that influence purchasing decisions for smartphones
  • Product usage and satisfaction for fitness trackers
  • Demographic characteristics of consumers who buy fast food
  • Attitudes and opinions towards vegan beauty products
  • Need for specialized features in gaming laptops
  • Willingness to pay a premium for organic baby food
  • Interest in emerging technology for home automation

The length of each survey will vary, but the majority will be within 5 – 15 minutes.

How much money can I earn with ySense?

The platform offers quite a variety of rewards, which is definitely a plus. You can choose from gift cards, PayPal, Amazon vouchers, Skrill, and Payoneer, giving you some flexibility in how you’d like to cash out your earnings.

Now, when it comes to the average reward per survey, based on our experience, it’s around 0.35. While this might not seem like much at first glance, those earnings can add up over time if you’re consistent in taking surveys and completing tasks. However, it’s essential to keep in mind that the compensation for some tasks can be on the lower side, which might be a bit disappointing.

One aspect that might be a bit off-putting for some users is the high payout threshold. You can only redeem your rewards when you reach $15, and this might take a bit of time and effort to achieve, especially if you’re relying solely on surveys and not participating in other earning opportunities.

Regarding the join bonus, it’s worth mentioning that specific details may vary, but it’s typically a nice little boost to get you started on the platform. So that’s a positive aspect worth considering.

To put things into perspective, on average, a survey taker needs to complete around 43 surveys before being able to withdraw their rewards. That’s quite a substantial number, and it will require a lot of dedication and time investment.

Many 3rd party surveys

While some of the surveys are coming through from the parent-company Prodege, the majority of the survey invitations come from 3rd party survey networks. Third-party survey networks typically work with multiple survey panel companies, which means that individuals who join the network can access surveys from a variety of sources. This can increase the number of surveys available to participants and provide more opportunities to earn rewards.

Examples of 3rd party survey networks include YourSurveys (Cint), Samplicio.us (Lucid) and PeanutLabs (Dynata). These surveys are less targeted than ySense surveys, which means you’ll also get disqualified more frequently.

Why so hard to qualify?

A frequent complaint about ySense is that it’s very hard to qualify for surveys. There are several reasons for this:

  1. Target demographic: ySense offers surveys that are designed to gather data from specific groups of people, such as consumers who have recently purchased a particular product or service, or individuals with a certain level of education or income. If you don’t fit the criteria that the survey is looking for, you may not be eligible to participate.
  2. A limited number of spots: Many of the surveys on ySense have a limited number of spots available, and once those spots are filled, the survey is closed. This means that even if you meet the criteria for the survey, you may not be able to participate if all the spots have already been taken. In some cases, you may need to be quick in responding to the survey invitation in order to secure a spot.
  3. Screening questions: Before you can participate in a survey, you may need to answer a series of screening questions. These questions are designed to ensure that you meet the criteria for the survey, but they can also be used to filter out participants who may not provide useful data. If you answer the screening questions in a way that doesn’t match what the survey is looking for, you may not qualify.

The pros and cons of signing up

Positives

On the positive side, ySense does have some attractive features. Firstly, the allure of cash payments is undoubtedly one of its main strengths. Unlike some other reward sites that offer only gift cards or vouchers, ySense provides cold, hard cash, which is always a welcome sight for users looking to make some quick money.

Secondly, ySense boasts varied earning opportunities. From completing surveys to participating in online tasks and offers, there’s a decent selection of ways to rake in those earnings. This diversity can keep users engaged and provide them with different ways to make money based on their preferences and skills.

Moreover, the process of signing up for ySense is relatively easy. The registration is straightforward, and getting started doesn’t require jumping through too many hoops. This user-friendly approach is essential for attracting new members and making the platform accessible to a wider audience.

Negatives

However, moving to the darker side of ySense, there are some notable drawbacks to consider. One significant concern is the high payout threshold. Users might find it frustrating to wait until they’ve accumulated a substantial amount before being able to cash out their earnings. This may discourage some from staying committed to the site.

Another drawback is the low compensation for some tasks. While there are multiple opportunities to earn money, the compensation for certain activities can be quite meagre. This can lead to feelings of dissatisfaction and might not be worth the time and effort invested in completing those tasks.

Furthermore, ySense is known for offering a plethora of third-party surveys. While this might sound appealing at first, it can quickly become overwhelming and time-consuming. Users might find themselves stuck in an endless loop of surveys with little to show for their efforts.

Additionally, the platform has been criticized for frequently blocking user accounts without clear explanations. This can be incredibly frustrating for individuals who have invested time and energy into the site, only to have their accounts suddenly suspended.

Lastly, the repetitive profiling questions can become tiresome. These questions are necessary for matching users with relevant surveys, but the constant repetition can leave users feeling like they’re going around in circles.

User ratings on other sites:

Most positive reviews praise ySense for its dependability, trustworthiness, variety of earning opportunities, and fast payouts. Some negative reviews complain about account issues, survey disqualifications, low rewards, and poor customer service.

Google Play Store: ySense has 3.78K reviews with an average rating of 2.9 out of 5 stars. Most positive reviews appreciate ySense’s easy interface, interesting surveys, and convenient app. Some negative reviews criticize ySense for its frequent technical glitches, low survey availability, high payout threshold, and unfair account suspensions.

SurveyPolice.com: ySense has 55 reviews with an average rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars. Most positive reviews commend ySense for its multiple earning options, generous referral program, and reliable payments. Some negative reviews denounce ySense for its low survey rates, high cashout minimums, and lack of support.

Based on these three review sites, ySense has an overall average rating of **3.4** out of 5 stars from **4.56K** public user reviews submitted in the past 2 years.

So, how do we make money? We receive fees from some of the sites we refer subscribers to. These fees are also known as affiliate commissions.
